Editorial policy
The rules every page follows before it is published, and after.
Numbers come from data, never from prose
Explanatory text does not contain hand-typed figures. Every amount on a page is filled in from the underlying data at the moment the page is built, so the words cannot drift away from the numbers. The methodology explains where that data comes from.
How AI is used
AI tools may help draft explanations, summarize a source document or suggest how to organize a page. They are never the source of a fact or a figure, and nothing they draft is published until a person has reviewed it.
When a page is published
A page is only offered to search engines when all of these hold:
- Its data is present, current and traceable to a named source.
- Its calculation ran without error and gives a plausible result.
- It says something the pages around it do not.
- It carries enough data of its own, or an explanation a person has reviewed.
These checks run automatically and cannot be overridden by hand.
Advertising
Ads are labeled, kept apart from the answer and placed below it. Commercial relationships are disclosed where they appear and have no influence on figures or rankings.
